What is a Uniclick Locking System?
The click system is the part of your floor you'll never see, but it's one of the most important factors in how well your floor performs and how easy it is to fit. Here's what Uniclick means and why it matters.
What is a Click Locking System?
A click locking system is the method by which individual flooring planks connect to each other during installation. Rather than using adhesive to glue planks to the subfloor or to each other, a click system uses a precisely engineered interlocking profile along the edges of each plank that snaps firmly together, locking the planks into a single cohesive floating floor.
The Uniclick system takes this a step further. Each plank locks to its neighbour at both the long edge and the short end in a single angled motion, creating a mechanical bond that runs the full length and width of every joint. No tapping block required on the long edges, no specialist tools, and no adhesive.
Why Uniclick is Better Than Basic Click
Strength
Tight Joint
The interlocking profile creates a strong mechanical bond that resists planks pulling apart under foot traffic and furniture.
Speed
Fast to Fit
Single angled motion on both long and short edges means installation is quicker and more intuitive than older click formats.
Flexibility
Fully Reversible
Planks can be unclicked and relaid if needed, useful for accessing pipework or replacing a damaged section.
How to Fit Uniclick Flooring
Fitting Uniclick flooring is straightforward and most confident DIYers can complete a room in a day. Here's the basic process:
- Lay your first plank in the corner of the room with the tongue side facing the wall, leaving a 10mm expansion gap around the perimeter.
- To connect the long edge of the next plank, angle it at approximately 20 to 30 degrees and press down firmly to engage the click joint. You'll feel and hear it lock into place.
- For the short end joints, use a knocking block and hammer to tap planks firmly together along the row until the joint closes completely.
- Start each new row with an offcut from the previous row of at least 300mm to create a natural staggered joint pattern across the floor.
- For the final row, use a pull bar to draw planks tight where a hammer and knocking block won't fit against the wall.

What Tools Do I Need?
One of the great advantages of Uniclick flooring is how little equipment you need. Your full tool list is a hammer, a knocking block, a Stanley knife, and a square edge for cutting planks cleanly to length. A pull bar is useful for the final row. That's it, no adhesive, no trowels, no specialist equipment of any kind.
Because our flooring comes with integrated underlay pre-attached to every plank, there's also no separate underlay to buy, cut, or tape down before you start. You unbox, acclimatise for 2 to 3 days, and fit.
